I was overseas with my mother from the 2nd of March 2020, to the 18th of March 2020. A lot happened with coronavirus in Australia during this time, and when we returned, we were legally required to enter self-isolation. This is my brief diary to document my experiences. (For other posts see: Prelude. Part one. Part two. Part three. Part four. Part five. Part six. Part seven. Part eight. Part nine. Part ten. Part eleven. Part twelve. Part thirteen.)

This was supposed to be my final day but, unless my Covid-19 results come back today, then I will be stuck here again tomorrow. While I like being at home, I don’t like my loss of wages.

I got up, watered my lawn, poop scooped – and made a scary discovery. A dead baby brown snake. Dead, no doubt, because a dog got it the days earlier. I narrowed it down to two dogs and one was with me poop scooping, so she was fine. I went back inside, and checked on the other dog, and she was also fine. I’ll be monitoring them but… I think we survived our first snake vs dog incident since moving in in April last year.

I watered my orchard. The tree that was almost-ring-barked doesn’t look any worse.

I’ve been thinking already about jobs that I really should’ve done by now. I have a letter to write today, and some copy to finish off.

I did a morning word sprint on ‘When Darkness Speaks’, giving me 733 words in 15 minutes.

My husband and I played Bananagrams. I hadn’t played it before and I thought I’d dislike it more than I did. I am not very good at spelling or making words from letters. Somehow, though, the game works okay if you can only write three letter words.

I tidied up the kitchen a bit, and especially the pantry. I enjoy tidying up, especially when listening to a podcast (today it was Beenham Valley Road), and finding foods forgotten. I discovered that we have enough noodles to last us until 2022.

It almost rained. I knew it was teasing, so I watered the new lawn again anyway.

In the afternoon, I did another 15 minute sprint on ‘When Darkness Speaks’ resulting in 1074 words – but then I decided I didn’t like it and so I’m going to rewrite the scene. At the moment, there’s a couple of minor plot holes that could distract from the importance of this scene.

My husband and I watched the first episode in the documentary series ‘Tiger King’. I knew it was based on the podcast Joe Exotic, which I had listened to many months ago, so I was interested to see the TV version. I had also seen memes about it everywhere, and I was worried that I might encounter a spoiler. It also gives me something to talk about with the friends I’m not allowed to see.

My husband and I are getting excited about all the shopping we’re going to do once my result comes back as negative. Potatoes and beer. My husband calls this, “An irish shop.”

Personally, I really want to get a lettuce. Could I be anymore vegan?
